Q: Why is English Language Arts (ELA) enrichment necessary?

While technology is useful in math and science, communication—whether spoken or written—remains a skill that must be mastered independently. Though writing and speaking may seem simple because we do them every day, they actually require a deep understanding and practice of English Language Arts (ELA). In fact, according to 2017 data from the National Assessment of Educational Progress, three-quarters of 12th and 8th graders lack proficiency in writing (Goldstein, NYT). This deficiency hinders basic communication, leading to misunderstandings and limiting academic or professional success. Since English is the most widely used language in business, ELA skills are crucial for tasks ranging from emails and social media posts to writing essays and creating presentations. Effective communication not only ensures that others will listen to you but also that they will understand and be influenced by your words.

Q: How will LTWN workshops work for my student?

LTWN workshops are rigorous and require a commitment of up to 3 hours 30 mins from the student each week. This includes a 1 hour 15 mins weekly class via Zoom, and about 2 hours, on average, that a student requires to complete the work assigned each week. We understand this is a lot of work, but great progress requires sufficient rigor! We are committed to ensuring student success as long as parents and students are equally as committed!

Q: What curriculum do you follow?

LTWN’s curriculum is based on the National Common Core and Creative Writing standards. Having taught over 2000 students, we know what areas need brush-ups and which require deeper learning. We also realize that students do not want to attend “just another” academic program after school. So the materials must be both engaging and challenging. We also constantly explore new methods of immersing students in active and participation-based learning.

Q: What workshop should I sign up my student for?

For advanced students in grades 2-9, consider the LTWN 360 workshop. It's a comprehensive program covering reading comprehension, writing, grammar, creative writing, and speech & debate. Classes are 1 hour and 15 minutes weekly, plus 30 minutes of homework four days a week. It offers detailed teacher feedback and rapid progress.
For younger students in grades 2-5, the LTWN Foundations workshop is a better fit. It covers reading, writing, and grammar with minimal homework and a slower pace.
For grades 9-12, we offer Honors - Pre AP, AP English, College Admission Essays, PSAT/SAT Prep, and 1-on-1 Coaching for personalized help.

Q: What is the difference between LTWN 360/Foundations and all the other workshops?

Both LTWN 360 and Foundations are annual programs where parents sign up their students for an 11-month enrichment program beginning in September till the end of the following July. All other workshops are currently offered as semester-based/seasonal. A student can sign up for sessions in the Fall (Sep–Dec), Winter/Spring (Jan–May), and/or Summer (Jun–Jul).

Q: Do you offer a trial class?

We don't offer trial classes. However, if after enrolling in a workshop, you or your child decide not to continue, we'll refund your payment after the first class. That said, we recommend attending the classes, completing the homework, and reviewing the feedback for a few weeks before making a final decision.

Q: What are your teacher’s qualifications?

At LTWN, we hire accomplished educators who are passionate about ELA. However, our learning outcomes are not solely dependent on the teacher's qualifications. While having highly qualified teachers is important, it is just one part of our approach. Our engaging curriculum, effective teaching methods, structured homework, regular detailed feedback, and overall accountability all contribute to your child's success. Simply put, we stand by the results we promise, provided the student actively participates.

Q: What if this program does not work for my student?

At LTWN, we believe that a rigorous program is essential for advancing a student’s ELA skills. However, we recognize that each student has a unique learning style. Our teachers hold students accountable, but true growth depends on the student's active participation, completion of homework, and encouragement from parents. If, over time, this support doesn’t lead to success, or if you wish to discontinue for any other reason, you may cancel your registration at the end of any month.

Q: Is there a sibling or multiple registration discount?

Yes. We offer a $50/- discount on the second registration onwards. This will be issued as a refund to the CC on file and will be applied against the next installment.
