The Speech & Debate Workshop is LTWN’s semester-long program for students in Grades 2 through 8 looking to develop their rhetoric skills. Through small classes led by passionate educators, students will learn to craft compelling and nuanced arguments while improving their presentation skills. The students analyze effective speeches as well as participate in one-on-one and team debates during class. The sense of confidence gleaned from this course will follow your child through adolescence and into adulthood.
Any student could benefit from improving their rhetoric skills! This class will give shy students a safe, supportive space to practice their public speaking skills as well as an opportunity for natural performers to flourish. Additionally, students planning on pursuing higher education would gain a massive advantage from honing their research and argumentative skills.
Students in the Speech & Debate Workshop will learn how to:
Students in the Speech & Debate Workshop meet weekly for 75-minutes over Zoom. This semester-long program typically runs for eight weeks during our Summer Semester (June/July). We offer this class at three levels: Grades 2-3, Grades 4-5, and Grades 6-8.
Students in the Speech & Debate Workshop will overcome their fear of public speaking and become competent debaters. They will be prepared to respond thoughtfully to others and develop a thoroughly researched line of reasoning. This class will prepare your student for academic and professional success.
And that’s just the beginning! LTWN always watches out for your child and supports parents and students along their academic journeys.
As the late and great Maya Angelou once said, “I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.” Here at LTWN, we hold Angelou’s words as a flame of truth. We are eager to see what your child can do today so that we may guide them to be their very best tomorrow.
